Eleftheria Deko
Principal Lighting Designer
Eleftheria Deko is the founder of Edeko Lighting Studio and an Assistant Professor at the Theatre Department of the School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Trained as a dancer, she began her career in stage lighting in New York during the 1990s. Since then, she has designed the lighting for more than 450 productions worldwide, including theatre plays, operas, concerts, dance performances, art installations, and exhibitions.
In 2000, after returning to Athens, she founded Edeko Lighting Studio, bringing her experience in theatre and art to the architectural field. The studio has since illuminated some of Greece’s most iconic sites, including the Acropolis of Athens.
Her work has been recognised internationally with numerous awards, including an EMMY for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympics, and the Woman Artist of the Year award in 2009 for her contribution to theatre and the arts. Alongside her professional practice, she has been active as an educator for more than two decades, teaching, lecturing, and leading masterclasses on architectural and stage lighting in Greece and abroad.
She is a member of USITT, ILA, PLDC, and the EMMY Academy.
